How to reconstitute a peptide
Reconstitution simply means dissolving a freeze-dried (lyophilized) peptide into a liquid so it can be measured. It is a ratio, not a mystery — for laboratory research only.
What you need
- Your lyophilized peptide vial
- Bacteriostatic water (or the solvent noted for that compound)
- A sterile syringe to transfer the water
- A U-100 insulin syringe for measuring research aliquots
The steps
- Let vials reach room temperature. Wipe both stoppers with alcohol.
- Draw your water. Pull the chosen volume of bacteriostatic water into a syringe.
- Add it slowly. Aim the stream against the glass wall, not directly onto the powder cake.
- Swirl, don't shake. Gently rotate until fully dissolved. Peptides are fragile.
- Store cold. Keep reconstituted material refrigerated and protected from light.
The only math that matters
Concentration = peptide (mg) ÷ water (mL). Once you know the concentration, the volume to draw for any dose follows directly. Rather than doing it by hand, let the calculator show the exact units on a U-100 syringe and a live picture of the fill.
